Fox Crops videos, is there any truth from this station?

May 5, 2009

It is often said that Fox News is a right wing leaning station or conservative station. However, what is conservative about lying or editing videos in a deceitful manner? Do conservative values and principles include misleading the public?

Goodcops.com to acknowledge good police officers in your community

February 9, 2009

I saw this on a post recently.

Why not start up a website like goodcops.com or something. The site could be for communities to nominate and acknowledge the good police officers in their communities. There are some good cops out there, but too often they are overshadowed by the rotten ones like that guy at BART.

Truth be told, you only hear about police officers in the news when they do something racist or abusive so that leads to a certain stigma and negative feeling about police in general. A site like “goodcops” could work to counter that stereotype. Pastors in the community along with celebrities could hand out the awards and the site could have other features to drive traffic to it. I think it would work best if a strong effort was made to make being a police officer cool again. (sort of like how Obama made politics cool again).

We can’t just hear the bad about police officers, or it tempts people to think they’re all bad which isn’t true or fair.

I think it’s important for the public to see a balance, so I agree with the poster on that. Maybe a site like “goodcops.gov” or something would be a good and effective way to improve relationships between police and the communities they serve in.

“Is Barack Obama black?” – A response to an AP article on this topic.

Is Barack Obama black?

Anytime you hear a question like this, one thing is absolutely certain:  the person they are talking about must be (or have been) a great success.  In this case, the subject of the question happens to be the next President of the United States of America.  President elect Barack Obama came literally out of no where to defeat Hillary Clinton and the Clinton machine, as well as those “mean old Republicans”, to win the 2008 presidential election in a landslide.

But what if Obama had not won?  What if news had come out that Obama had a secret white mistress who accused him of rape and abuse?  Would white America jump to say he wasn’t black then?  Would Americans from mixed backgrounds leap to say he’s one of them, or he’s raceless?  Would news periodicals and the AP run stories claiming “Many insisting that Obama is not black”?  Or would they run front cover images of him darkening his features?

I wonder what the reaction would be if these same people, who now claim “Barack Obama is not black”, were to have only known the Barack Obama of the 1970s?  What would they have said about him when he had an afro, played high school basketball,  drank, experimented with drugs, and was “casual” about his education and future? (as his mother put it in Dreams from my father)

barackobamahs

He still had a white mother from Kansas, and he was still raised mainly by his white grandparents.  However, something tells me that those same white people and “mixed” people would not be as enthusiastic about claiming him as one of their own.  I can just hear them referring to him as that BLACK burden to an otherwise “good family”.  To some, he might serve as  evidence as to why white women should never ever sleep with black men (because they produce such awful offspring).

No America, President elect Barack Obama is black.  He is an African American, and thankfully he is smart enough and has enough integrity to recognize that.  Black people come in every single shade you can think of, but we are still black.  The KKK has no problem recognizing that.  Nor did most white people when passing on their inheritance.  It would be laughable to believe that the black offspring from rapes/relations between white slave owners/segregationists and black women would gain the same recognition and treatment (when it comes to passing on inheritance) as the white offspring of those men.  Undoubtedly, there are many white people in America who are related to black people and they don’t even know it.  Consider this, it was Barack Obama who brought up his relationship to Dick Cheney, not the other way around.  At the height of his power as Vice President and his dealings with Halliburton, do you think Dick Cheney ever recognized Barack Obama as part of his family?  Ha!

Sadly, there is still a subtle belief in America that being black is a bad thing.  That explains why whenever an African American becomes incredibly successful (like Oprah or Michael Jordan), people are quick to say “they transcend race”.  It is almost as if they are saying “you are so good at what you do, that we will forgive you for being black.  I hardly even notice that (negative) part about you.”

When have you ever heard this type of comment said about a successful white American?  Nobody says Michael Phelps “transcends race”.  Nobody says that about Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, George Clooney or Brad Pitt, Celine Dion or Barbra Streisand, etc.  For them, and many non blacks in general, race is not something to apologize for, nor is it something that is even addressed.

But whether we are talking about Halle Berry or Colin Powell, Tiger Woods or Barack Obama, successful African Americans with mixed backgrounds always seem to draw comments seeking to dilute, belittle, or ignore their black/African roots.  Even for black Americans with two black parents, like Beyonce, efforts seem to be made to diminsh their blackness once they reach a certain success level.

black-white-beyonce_787558c

I recognize that people with this mentality often consider themselves as being “helpful”.  They may also claim they are being “accurate” and “honest” in their assessments.  (that is, when it comes to recognizing the diversity in the ethnic backgrounds of successful African Americans).   But what they are really doing is perpetuating the lie that black people and people of black African descent are inferior.  They are saying that being black is a bad thing, and thus any successes from blacks (especially in terms of intelligence or beauty), comes about because the person is not really black, or the person is unusually gifted enough to overcome their blackness.

In order to truly “perfect our union”, Americans must redefine what it means to be black.  That is, we must change our attitudes towards the word “black”, when speaking about ethnicity.  “Black” can no longer harbor within its definition the lies of inferiority, danger, cultural weakness, criminal intentions, ignorance, foolish and rebellious behaviors, loudness and bad grammar, or any other negative or stereotypical  attributes.  Black must describe one’s ethnic background, physical attributes, and that’s about it.

I am even slow to suggest that culture be added to the definition of “black”, because culture is mainly tied to environment, upbringing, and social structures.  Thus, a “black” person from the suburbs of Minnesota is still “black”, even if he or she does not share all of the cultural preferences or practices of a “black” person from Atlanta.  Too often, African Americans who break from the black stereotypes pedaled by the entertainment industry and the media are subsequently labeled “not black” or “acting white”.  Too often those blacks that dare to speak proper English are accused of “talking white”, despite the fact that some of the greatest orators in our nation’s history (MLK, Federick Douglass, even Malcolm X) were black.  History shows that African Americans built their own towns and universities, even during the brutal years of Jim Crow and segregation, yet the popular stereotype only emphasizes the ghetto, and the projects, and lazy uneducated blacks seeking handouts.

carsonYes, whites and blacks and all Americans must look carefully at their own definitions of the word “black”  if we are ever to truly unite as a country.  Just as whites should not be labeled racist simply for being white, blacks should not be seen as a stereotype simply for being black.  And those blacks that do reach high levels of success are still black.  If they marry outside of their race, they are still black.  Even if they came from mixed marriages, in America, they are still black.

Black is not confined to the jail cells, the hip hop videos, the basketball courts, the stripper poles,  the ghettos and stereotypical images in the media.  Black exists in corporate board rooms, in the upper ranks of the military, in ivy league schools, in high fashion magazines, in law offices, in doctors offices and scientific laboratories, in NASA space programs and architectural/engineering firms, in the police forces and congressional offices, and yes…now…black exists in the White House!

MSM LIED! Barack Obama destroyed Iraq “flip flop” accusations back on March 20th

July 7, 2008

CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX News, MSNBC, all of the major networks along with newspapers and pundits have questioned constantly whether Obama flip flopped on the Iraq War.  Above is the full speech Obama gave on the subject back on March 20, 2008.   Oddly, few in the press seem to remember it, because from 10:38 on, Obama takes on similar charges from Hillary Clinton during the primaries.

If you can see the whole thing, please do.  If not, watch 10:38-12:20

Clinton’s comment: The dumbest thing ever said in American politics

May 25, 2008

From her own home state of New York, NY Daily News columnist Michael Goodwin writes:

SICK. Disgusting. And yet revealing. Hillary Clinton is staying in the race in the event some nut kills Barack Obama.

It could happen, but what definitely has happened is that Clinton has killed her own chances of being vice president. She doesn’t deserve to be elected dog catcher anywhere now.

Her shocking comment to a South Dakota newspaper might qualify as the dumbest thing ever said in American politics.

Even in giving Sen. Hillary Clinton every possible benefit of the doubt, her comment on Friday was at best reckless and her parallels historically inaccurate. In mentioning her husband, Bill Clinton, MSNBC’s own Tim Russert said today on Meet the Press that mathematically, Bill already had the nomination locked up in April. Back then the Clintons knew math, and hailed Russert as a “mathematical genius”. Thus Bill was not, as Hillary suggests, fighting for every delegate way in to June. He was coasting on the confidence that he had earned the nomination, something Hillary is currently trying to deny Obama.

Her next comment sealed her fate. “We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don’t understand it,” she said, dismissing calls to drop out. This comment must be carefully analyzed because as outrageous and infuriating as it is, there are some that do not see a problem with it.

Historically, Bobby Kennedy got into the race only six weeks prior to his assassination in June, a significantly shorter time span than the length of this election, which has been going on for a year and five months. So there can be no comparison between this election and the murder of Robert Kennedy in regards to “long Presidential campaigns”. Presidential Historian, Doris Kearns Goodwin, cited this fact today on Meet the Press. Also, Kennedy was not in the lead when he was killed. He was running far enough behind Hubert Humphrey that many historians believe he would have lost even if he hadn’t been shot. Humphrey had almost a 200 delegate lead over Robert Kennedy. Therefore, any suggestions that some how the murder of RFK brought new life to another candidate in that election (as disgusting as that sounds) is also historically inaccurate. Yet the Clinton camp has been hoping for weeks now that something horrible, something cataclysmic would happen to the Obama campaign. Ironically, in wishing for such things, Hillary Clinton brought upon herself that very fate.

There are those that like to ignore the comparisons of Obama to RFK in Hillary’s comment, claiming that she wasn’t talking about the Illinois Senator. Now that we’ve already shown that whatever point she was trying to make fails in light of history, we will examine if the claims that she was drawing parallels between Obama and RFK are unfounded.

Robert Kennedy was a charismatic Democratic Presidential candidate with broad appeal. He campaigned in the ghettos and barrios of large cities, where he was mobbed by enthusiastic supporters. Sound familiar? He was also young (he died at age 42) and very popular amongst African Americans. It was Bobby Kennedy who spoke out to a crowd of largely African Americans immediately following Dr. Martin Luther King’s assassination. His words of sympathy and calls for understanding helped settle some of the urges to riot in that city. Barack Obama is only 4 years older than Kennedy was when he passed (Obama is 46). He too is known for his charisma, broad appeal, and vision. He is also the first viable African American Presidential candidate in the history of the United States of America. Until now, 2008, every President and every Vice President in the history of the US has been a white male. In fact, all but three viable candidates and every Republican candidate (I am excluding Alan Keyes as viable) in this election has been a white male. So, yes, African Americans are enthusiastic about Barack Obama’s candidacy, and so are many other Americans. He has drawn record crowds full of people who have never taken an interest in politics. (75,000 in Oregon!)

So there are similarities between Obama and RFK, which makes Hillary’s comment utterly stomach turning. Why would murder be on her mind? And even if it was, as it is for many that lived through the assassinations of MLK, JFK, and RFK, what in heaven’s name would possess her to voice it publicly on tape and on camera? Barack Obama had to have secret service protection early on in this election. In fact, he’s had it earlier than any other candidate ever has. Early last year, the KKK made death threats against Barack Obama, serious enough to where authorities and his campaign were notified.

Hillary’s comment follows on the heels of Mike Huckabee’s stupid joke before the NRA, about Obama ducking from a gun. And her non-apology-to-Obama apology was a mere rambling about how the illness of Ted Kennedy led her to reminisce on the murder of Robert Kennedy! People, that is extremely disturbing. When a friend of yours gets sick, it shouldn’t lead you to thoughts about the death of their slaughtered sibling. Honestly, what on earth was she thinking?

For those that cite RFK’s son’s remarks to diminish Hillary’s self-imposed fire storm, I will remind you that he is and was a Hillary supporter. I think many, including the Obama camp, want to give Hillary the benefit of the doubt and save her from accusations of having evil desires. But even if her colossal blunder was not motivated by darkness, it then only shows an extreme naivety and lack of common sense and decency that is shocking nonetheless. And no, being “tired” is no excuse. After all, she’s “ready at 3am”.
